Breaking News: Ethiopia Launches New Digital ID System

ally launched its long-awaited National Digital ID program, aiming to modernize public services and improve citizen access to government support.

The program, known as "Fayida," will allow Ethiopians to register digitally and receive a secure ID number that can be used for education, healthcare, banking, and more. The rollout begins in major cities, including Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa, and Mekelle.

"This is a big step toward a modern, inclusive, and digital Ethiopia," said Dr. Solomon Semere, Minister of Innovation and Technology.

The digital ID is expected to reduce fraud, improve service delivery, and support digital businesses across the country.
